New Welding Fumes Control Standards

By Cliff

New evidence from the International Agency for Research on Cancer shows that exposure to mild steel welding fumes can cause lung cancer and kidney cancer. In response, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) strengthened its enforcement expectations concerning Local Exhaust Ventilation and Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE).
This is important to insurance policyholders who use welding equipment, particularly those with employers’ liability cover, because failing to implement appropriate controls could result in an increased risk of future claims.

Policyholders need to act now to ensure they assess the risks of welding fumes to employees and the general public, and act on them in accordance with the HSE’s new guidance. Click here for more advice.
